Men’s and Women’s Soccer Prepare for 2024 SAA Championships

Majors Travel to Face Oglethorpe, Rhodes on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. The Millsaps men's and women's soccer teams enter the postseason and prepare for the 2024 SAA Championships. Both teams will split the First Round with the men heading to Atlanta, Ga. to face No. 2 seed Oglethorpe University, while the women trek to Memphis, Tenn. to face No. 2 seed Rhodes College.

Men's Soccer

The Majors and Stormy Petrels will face off on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. CT.

Each team faced each other not long ago with the Petrels leaving Jackson, Miss. with a 3-0 victory victorious on Oct. 20. The Majors look to bounce back and get an upset win, this time on the Petrels home turf.

If the Majors are going to win and make a run in the tournament, they will need big production out of star goalkeeper Michael Hamauei. The junior from Shreveport, La., has started in 14 of the 15 games for the Majors, racking up a conference-leading 70 saves as well as a 1.88 goals against average.

The Majors will also look for freshman phenom Ellis Dykes to continue his strong debut campaign. Dykes has tallied three goals on the year along with seven points, both of which are tied for first on the team.

His freshman counterpart Drew Mckeithen has posted two goals and a team-high three assists, while junior Hogan Payne is tied with Dykes at three goals each.

The Majors and Lynx will also face off against each other on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m.

Millsaps travels back to Memphis hoping for a different result from the last meeting on Sept. 28. The Lynx dominated to win, 8-0.

The Majors will hope for their stat leader Alex Bremond to continue scoring at a high level. The sophomore from Slidell, La., has recorded 18 points, which consist of six goals and six assists. She has also taken 37 shots, 20 on target, which has given her great chances to score.

Freshman Suzanna Busbee has shown great promise in her first collegiate campaign. She has tallied 11 total points, accumulating five goals, an assist and 14 shots on goal.

Also looking to make an impact is junior goalkeeper Emily Lozano. Lozano has started every game for the Majors and has racked up 95 saves. She is going to key for Millsaps to advance.
