JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team gave everything they had, but fell short to Hendrix College, 2-0 late in the second half at Harper Davis Field on Friday.
The program also recognized five student-athletes for Senior Night including seniors
Daniel Denton, Kade Folse, Parker Ricks and Luke Seelmann as well as graduate
Connor Stegeman.
Freshman Ellis Dykes and junior
Hogan Payne both registered two shots on frame, freshman
Drew Mckeithen tallied two shot attempts.
Classmate Kaleb Wilkins, freshman
Alden Romano and junior
Sam Cagle each recorded one shot on goal.
Hendrix (4-3-2, 1-0 SAA) outnumbered the Majors, 15-10 in shots, while the Majors held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Millsaps (2-6-2, 0-2 SAA) almost had the chance to open the scoring in the 13th minute following a kick by Romano. However, the Warriors pushed the kick away early on.
Only 31 seconds later Wilkins would barely miss a kick towards the top left of goal. The opening half would end scoreless.
In the second half, Dykes and Payne both looked for the go-ahead goal, but were both stopped by the Hendrix keeper.
The 55th minute saw Hendrix collect their first yellow card and Mckeithen would grab a yellow card following a collision on the opposing netkeeper.
In the 64th minute, Hendrix would earn a penalty kick from a Millsaps handball in the box. The penalty taker would score to give Hendrix the first tally of the night.
Less than two minutes later, Payne worked to tie the match but his shot at goal was stopped by Hendrix.
In the 74th minute, Hamauei would absorb a shot in his glove following a kick to the lower center of goal. Mckeithen then provided a shot attempt, but it went wide in the 77th minute of action.
In the 87th minute, Hendrix scored their second goal of the match with a header to move ahead, 2-0. The Warriors would pull away late in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory.
The Majors will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 11 and face Sewanee in Tennessee, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
