JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team finished the weekend off strong by shutting down MUW, 85-66 to conclude the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.
Senior Whitney Novak led the Majors with her first career double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds off the glass. She also contested one steal on defense.
Junior Elyse Warren also finished with her seventh double-double of the season. The tremendous forward added 10 points, 10 rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot inside the perimeter.
Sophomore Garin Freeman shut down the Owls with her second career double-double following 16 points and 11 assists. The guard was just one rebound away from a triple-double with nine boards and a block.
Senior Haley Franklin, coming off a 33-point game against Huntingdon the day before, tallied 10 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and a one blocked shot on defense.
Junior Lexus Keyes recorded 13 points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals.
Sophomore Tia Anderson finished the afternoon with eight points, one assist, a steal, a rebound and a blocked shot.
Senior Taylor Frank chipped in five points and three rebounds while tying a career-high two blocks.
Millsaps (7-1) shut down MUW (1-5) with a 35-2 advantage in points off the bench and the team rolled past the Owls, 22-5 in fast break points.
The Owls fell behind, 48-24 in points from the paint, while the Majors took a narrow 18-14 lead in second chance points.
Millsaps scored early in the first quarter following an and-one shot from Franklin.
The Baton Rouge, La., native would continue to put up numbers inside the paint from a driving layup to extend the Major lead to 7-3.
However, the Owls would soon utilize a three-pointer to move ahead of the Majors, 10-7.
Both teams would battle back and forth before a Warren fast-break layup would direct the Majors back in front by two points.
As the first quarter concluded, senior Emily Adams (seven points) would put the ball inside the net with 39 seconds remaining to close out the first with the Majors ahead, 21-14.
In the second quarter, MUW would cut their deficit down to three points from a jump shot. However, with five minutes and 48 seconds remaining in the opening 20 minutes, Frank scored under the basket following a nifty Freeman pass to help the Majors continue their advantage up to 32-22.
Anderson would come down with a huge block following a missed jumper from her foe with two minutes and six seconds left on the clock.
The Brusly, La., product would finish the rest for the Majors following a driving layup at the horn to send the squad into halftime leading, 43-37.
In the third quarter, Millsaps outscored Huntingdon 23-7 as a Novak three-pointer would give the Majors their first tally.
With four minutes remaining in the quarter, Keyes would make a floating jump shot that would transition into an and-one opportunity. Keyes would stand at the foul line for an and-one shot to move the Majors further along, 56-39.
As the third quarter concluded, Warren would finish at the foul line with MUW still trailing behind by 22 points.
Millsaps leading by a huge margin of 80-58, Keyes would knock down a triple in the corner of the court off a Freeman assist.

Millsaps would continue to dominate on both sides of the court the remainder of the matchup. Freeman ended the matchup with a crucial block on defense to guide the Majors past MUW, 85-66.
The Majors will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 11 and face the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Game start is slated for 5:30 p.m.
