Men’s Basketball Falls to Huntingdon, 98-79 on Tuesday

Junior Caleb Kent Records Season-High 21 Points in Defeat

JACKSON, Miss. The Millsaps men's basketball team was bettered by Huntingdon College, 98-79 inside the Hangar Dome on Tuesday.

Junior transfer Caleb Kent led the Majors with a season-high 21 points, while accumulating five rebounds, three assists one block and one steal. The Madison, Miss., native also shot 7-of-12 from field goal range.

Sophomore Cameron Lumar contested 14 points, while adding two rebounds and two steals. Freshman Jovanni Perez recorded 11 points, two assists, one rebound and one steal against the Hawks.

Senior Nicholas Ughovwa highlighted 10 points, four rebounds and one steal against the Hawks, while shooting 5-of-8 from the floor.

Millsaps (2-5) was outnumbered, 22-11 by Huntingdon (5-0) in fast break points. The opposing team also outnumbered the Majors, 18-3 in second chance points, while leading 51-44 in total bench points accumulated.

Ughovwa's driving layup would give the Majors their first points of the first quarter before Huntingdon would extend their lead to 7-2.

However, Lumar would soon cut the Majors' deficit down by three following a pull-up jumper.

Huntingdon would move ahead, but a junior Mack Gorton stepback three-pointer cut the deficit to 11-7.

With 12 minutes and 49 seconds on the clock, Perez would bank a trey to keep the Majors in the game, only trailing by four.

Midway through the first half, Kent would make a layup  and block an attacker's shot to keep the Majors' momentum alive.

Huntingdon would soon find themselves in trouble as Perez would sink a layup and convert an and-one free throw, making it 31-27.

Kent would give the Majors their final points of the half off a driving layup, with the Hawks going into intermission leading by 13 points.

In the second half, Kent would continue to score inside the paint to give Millsaps their first points. However, Huntingdon would stay out in front the remainder of the contest and close out the Majors, 98-79.

The Majors will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 13 to face Centenary College in Shreveport, La. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
