Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team played hard but fell short to Huntingdon, 3-1 in their home opener at Twenty Field on Tuesday.
Graduate Branyan Bounds (one run) and junior Bradley Pelle (one walk, stolen base) both batted 1-for-3, while senior Case Page tallied an RBI with two walks.
The Covington, La., native Nick Tarantino opened up his junior campaign with 3.0 IP while only allowing two hits, zero runs and adding one strikeout.
Senior Jackson Hood stood on the mound with 1.0 IP and two strikeouts, while giving up zero hits and one run.
The Majors took the first score in the bottom of the first inning with an unearned run when Page used a bases-loaded walk to score Bounds.
In the top of the fifth, Huntingdon would tie the game 1-1 with a pair of singles, a fielder's choice and error.
The Hawks would follow through with another run top of the eighth and a third run in the top of the ninth for the final tally.
The Majors will return back to action Thursday to face Edgewood College in a junior varsity game, beginning at 5 p.m.
