ATLANTA – Millsaps baseball graduate pitcher
Wil Wood secured a pair of weekly pitching honors after throwing a sensational, no-hit gem against Westminster on Friday, Feb. 23.
Wood earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week as a starting pitcher on Wednesday and was named the SAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
He struck out 16 batters in seven innings out of a possible 22 batters in a 1-0 triumph at Twenty Field. The one blemish came from a fielding error.
It is the second time this season Wood has earned SAA Athlete of the Week plaudits as a pitcher, having swept the SAA weekly honors with junior right fielder
Bradley Pelle on Feb. 12.
Wood currently has tallied 34 strikeouts in 18 innings this season, which leads the next best NCAA Division III pitcher by eight strikeouts.
Millsaps is next scheduled to play three games in Montgomery, Ala. The first matchup is slated with Edgewood College, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
