NCBWA Recognizes Wil Wood as Div. III Pitcher of the Month

Graduate Selected as Top Pitcher in the Nation for Games Contested, Feb. 1-25

JACKSON, Miss. – The list of early-season honors continues to add up for Millsaps baseball graduate pitcher Wil Wood, who was selected the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III Pitcher of the Month on Wednesday.

Wood earns his third pitching honor this week after being tabbed the SAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday and earning a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Wednesday as well.

In four appearances during February, Wood struck out 34 of 64 batters faced, while only walking four batters and allowing seven hits in 18.0 IP.

Wood finished the month 2-0 with three starts and posted a 1.00 ERA. He leads the next closest pitcher by seven strikeouts across NCAA Division III.
 
The Memphis, Tenn., product posted a seven-inning no-hitter against Westminster (Mo.) on Feb. 23 in which he struck out 16 batters. His previous start against Edgewood went six innings in which Wood tossed 14 strikeouts on Feb. 16.
 
Wood becomes the second Millsaps baseball student-athlete to be honored by the NCBWA, joining Garner Wetzel who was named the NCBWA Div. III Hitter of the Week in 2005. The weekly and monthly honors have been bestowed since the 2003 season.

Millsaps is next scheduled to play three games in Montgomery, Ala. Potential updates due to weather will be provided on social media and on the Millsaps baseball schedule page at gomajors.com.

The first matchup is slated with Edgewood College, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
