Centre Downs Men’s Basketball, 71-56 on Sunday

Drew Roth Posted 12 Points, while Cameron Lumar Recorded Double-Double in Loss

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Millsaps men's basketball team fought hard but were unable to overcome Centre, falling 71-56 in the regular-season road finale inside the Alumni Gymnasium on Sunday.
 
Millsaps (6-16, SAA 5-7) outnumbered Centre (11-11, 6-5 SAA) in total rebounds (44-39), while leading narrowly in points in the paint (24-22).
 
The Majors also shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the free-throw line as the Colonels led 14-0 in fast-break points.
 
Junior Drew Roth led the Majors with 12 points, adding eight rebounds, two assists and a steal on defense. Freshman Cameron Lumar recorded his second collegiate double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
 
Senior Aaron Ursin tallied eight points, five rebounds, one assist and one block on defense. Sophomore Rodney Phillips Jr. posted nine points while, one rebound and one steal against the Colonels.
 
Millsaps opened the game with a Roth jumper, but Centre would respond on a 9-0 run to take an early advantage.
 
As the half continued, the Colonels saw a junior Nicholas Ughovwa layup decrease the margin to 11-6.
 
Both teams would begin to play stout defense amongst each other. With 3:55 remaining, senior TJ Hogan hit back-to-back shots and sophomore Dakota Gasca recorded a free-throw make to shorten the deficit to 22-16.
 
The Colonels would jump ahead using a 7-0 run to remain on top. Sophomore Evan Watson would sink a 3-pointer with nine seconds on the clock to stop the run before Centre three consecutive free throws to lead at halftime, 32-20.
 
In the beginning of the second half, Ursin connected on a jumper assisted by Hogan. Lumar and sophomore Mack Gorton back-to-back 3-pointers before a Phillips free throw would cut the lead down to eight points, trailing 42-34 with for the Majors with 14:48 minutes to go.
 
At 11:11 following the media timeout, Roth sank a 3-pointer to make it a 49-40 deficit. Roth would score eight straight Millsaps points.
 
The Colonels would continue to hold on to the lead as they built a 15-point margin with 4:39 on the clock. Centre held the 15-point cushion and claimed the 71-56 win.
