JACKSON, Miss. – A pair of Millsaps women's basketball program members received tremendous honors on Tuesday as the 2023-24 D3hoops.com All-Region Teams and awards were announced. Head coach
Justin LeBlanc was named the Region 6 Coach of the Year and junior
Haley Franklin earned a spot on the All-Region 6 First Team.
Region 6 covers programs from across the Southeast and D3hoops.com All-Region Teams date back to 2002. LeBlanc joins
Chuck Winkelman (2011-12) as Region Coach of the Year and Franklin joins
Velvet Johnson (2014-15) on the All-Region First Team in Millsaps women's basketball program history.
LeBlanc guided the Majors to their most wins in program history (24-5) and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1996. He was also named SAA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year before leading Millsaps to its first-ever conference postseason title.
The Majors were also helmed to their seventh regular-season conference title in program history with 12-2 SAA record and perfect 16-0 overall ledger at home.
In his eighth season leading the program, Millsaps paced the SAA in points scored per game (68.6 ppg), opponent field-goal percentage (33.2 percent) and opponent three-point percentage (24.2 percent).
Franklin adds to her 2023-24 accomplishments after being selected the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year, SAA Tournament MVP, while also earning a spot on both the All-SAA First Team and SAA All-Tournament Team.
The Baton Rouge, La., product secured recognition on the D3hoops.com All-Region Team for the second occasion after appearing on the Third Team a season ago.
Additionally, Franklin was selected to D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Dec. 19 and was the SAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week three times as a junior.
She broke her own Millsaps single-season scoring record with 526 points in 28 total games. Franklin also led the conference in scoring (18.8 ppg), points, field goals (187) and free-throw makes (146).
There were 812 players nominated nationwide for these awards by the Sports Information Directors. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
It is the 23rd season D3hoops.com has named All-Region Teams. The regional Rookie of the Year award honors the top freshman in each region, while D3hoops.com also names a regional Coach of the Year.
Division III basketball is organized into 10 regions. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a First and Second Team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to full seasons in the eight-region alignment.
Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The teams will be released March 16 at the national championship game.
