CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps baseball team (11-9, 1-5 SAA) fell to Hendrix (14-5, 6-0 SAA) in a doubleheader, 11-1 in seven innings and 9-8 in nine innings at Warrior Baseball Field on Saturday.
Game 1: 11-1 (7 inn.), L
Freshman
Degan Hensley batted 2-for-3, while sophomore
EJ Ousley finished 1-for-2 at bat with an RBI against Hendrix. Senior
Jackson Ware scored a run, walked twice and added a steal.
Senior
Graham Harrison pitched four innings for the Majors while giving up two earned runs with one strikeout.
The Warriors took control in the bottom of the second inning with two runs and continued to strengthen their lead in the bottom of the third with two more runs.
In the top of the fifth, Ousley would respond for the Majors with a sacrifice to left field to score Ware.
The Warriors answered again with a run in the sixth and later put up six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to top the Majors, 11-1 in Game One.
Game 2: 9-8 (9 inn.), L
Hensley was terrific in Game Two going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Senior
Case Page finished 3-for-5 with a season-high three RBIs and scored a run. Ousley batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.
An Ousley single to left field brought graduate
Branyan Bounds home to give the Majors a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Hendrix would tie the game at 1-1.
The Warriors would add three hits and three runs to push ahead, 4-1 in the second.
In the top of the third, Millsaps tied the game at 4-4. Page doubled to left field and plated Hensley and Ousley. A Norris single to left field would knot the game and bring Page back home.
Hendrix regained the lead with a run in the bottom of third before the Majors swung back with three tallies in the top of the fourth.
Millsaps took their second lead of the game at 6-5 when Hensley doubled around teammates graduate
Robert Vassallo and Bounds.
Page extended the Majors' advantage to 7-5 with a single to right field to give Hensley the chance to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hendrix would claw back and regain the lead with four runs at 8-7.
Senior
David Abbadessa used an RBI ground out to bring junior
Bradley Pelle home and tie the game at 8-8 in the fifth.
Both teams would hold defensively until the bottom of the ninth as Hendrix used a sacrifice fly to left field to earn a 9-8 walk-off win.
