Baseball’s Comeback Falls Short in Game Two of Cowboy Maloney Series

Majors, Blazers Combine for 25 Runs and 33 Hits on Wednesday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team fought back but were unable to overtake Belhaven in Game Two of the Cowboy Maloney Series on Wednesday. The Majors were defeated, 19-6 at Twenty Field.

Millsaps (13-12) and Belhaven (11-9) utilized nine pitchers each and combined for 33 hits and 25 runs. The Blazers garnered 20 hits, while the Majors accumulated 13 base knocks.

Graduate Branyan Bounds (2-for-3) doubled twice, walked, scored a run and tallied an RBI. Senior Jackson Ware batted 2-for-2 with a run, RBI and walk.

Junior Evan Scott finished 2-for-3 and freshman Degan Hensley ended the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Blazers jumped out to a 7-0 advantage with three runs in the first, one run in the second and three runs in the third.

Bounds doubled in the third and was batted home by a Hensley single to make it 7-1 in the bottom of the third.

Belhaven answered with a run in the top of the fourth before the Majors scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Millsaps loaded the bases and junior Bradley Pelle recorded a sacrifice fly, which plated redshirt sophomore Will Norris. Ware followed with a single bringing senior Case Page home.

Ware walked in the sixth, was advanced to second and scored courtesy of a Bounds RBI double. However, the Blazers scored and grew their lead to 15-6 with a pair of runs in the seventh and seven tallies in the eighth.

The Majors added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth when freshman Mason Morgan doubled home pinch runner and freshman Anson Mo-Billiot. Later in the inning, senior David Abbadessa produced an RBI ground out to bring Morgan home from third.

Belhaven added four runs in the ninth and kept the Majors off the scoreboard for a final, 19-6 decision.

Millsaps resumes conference competition on Friday when its faces Oglethorpe in Atlanta, beginning at 4 p.m. CT. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
