Box Score ATLANTA – The Millsaps baseball team was held down with 16 strikeouts in 10 innings against Oglethorpe, falling 2-1 at Hermance Stadium on Friday.
Redshirt sophomore
Will Norris and true sophomore
Gavin Tranchina did well on the mound for the Majors as well. Norris tossed seven innings with four strikeouts and three walks against six hits. Tranchina bridged two innings with two strikeouts, one earned run, one walk and four hits.
Junior
Gray Berry batted 2-for-3, while sophomore
EJ Ousley, junior
Evan Scott and senior
Jackson Ware also tallied a hit.
The Majors appeared poised for a big evening with a run in the top of the second inning. Norris led off with a walk and advanced to third three batters later. Ware singled to right field and brought Norris home.
Oglethorpe answered with a run in the bottom half of the second. A walk, fielder's choice, error, hit by pitch and single knotted the game at 1-1.
Millsaps loaded the bases in the fourth, but back-to-back strikeouts closed the threat. The Stormy Petrels did the same in the sixth, but were kept off the scoreboard with a strikeout and inning-ending fly out.
Oglethorpe again loaded the bases in the eighth, but a strikeout swinging and strikeout looking facilitated by Tranchina kept the contest at 1-1.
Both teams would produce bases runners in the ninth and 10th innings, but an Oglethorpe single, hit by pitch and single moments later provided the third and decisive run in the bottom of the 10th.
The teams begin an 11 a.m. CT doubleheader on Saturday to decide the series. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
