JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team gave everything they had in a road matchup against No. 6 nationally ranked Belhaven, but fell in a doubleheader, 8-0 and 6-1 at McCleod Softball Field on Tuesday.
Game 1: 8-0, L (5 Inn.)
Seniors
Molli Perry and
Haylie Hoffpauir both recorded a hit, sophomore
Kinsey Smith walked and freshman
Allana Vasquez was hit by a pitch against the Blazers in Game one.
Vasquez also pitched in all four innings for the Majors in the circle.
Belhaven got the first run in the bottom of the first inning, but in the bottom of the second the Blazers would pull away early for a 6-0 lead.
A home run by Belhaven would extend their lead to 8-0 in the third. Hoffpauir singled in the top of the fifth inning, but Belhaven caught a ground out to end Game One.
Game 2: 6-1, L
Smith batted 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Vasquez and senior
Camille Black finished 1-for-3, while freshman
Madeline Black recorded an RBI in Game Two against the Blazers.
Senior
Brianna Newman pitched all six innings, while striking out three batters.
Belhaven would launch ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning and later use three runs to build a 6-0 margin after three innings.
In the top of the seventh, the Millsaps bats would heat up as Smith singled and advanced to third on two wild pitches.
Madeline Black used a ground out to score Smith would score moments later.
Camille Black followed with a single, however Belhaven would end the game on the next play with an out to take Game Two, 6-1.
The Majors will be back in action on Friday against Hendrix, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
