ATLANTA – Millsaps men's golf freshman
Preston Severs continued his terrific campaign, earning his second Southern Athletic Association Men's Golf Athlete of the Week honor of the season on Monday. He received the recognition after a league coaches' vote following his efforts at the Shoals Intercollegiate, April 14-16.
Severs led the Majors in a tie for 12th against several nationally ranked foes on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals.
He carded plus-4 (77-71-72) on the par-72 course, following three rounds of action. The freshman mastered the 7,165-yard course with an eagle and was tied for sixth most birdies with 11 in Muscle Shoals, Ala. His 1-under 71 in the Round Two was a college best as well.
The freshman from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., became the first Millsaps men's golfer to be named SAA Men's Golfer of the Week twice in a single season program history. Ryan Martin earned the honor once in 2015 and once more in 2016.
The Millsaps men's and women's golf programs will next compete at the SAA Golf Championships, April 26-28 at the Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
