Millsaps Baseball Secures Three Spots on All-SAA Squad

Nick Tarantino, Wil Wood, Evan Scott Earn Recognition

ATLANTA – A Millsaps baseball trio stood out with stellar seasons and each were voted on the 2024 All-Southern Athletic Association Baseball Team, announced on Monday. Conference coaches selected both junior Nick Tarantino and graduate Wil Wood Second Team All-SAA as starting pitchers, while junior Evan Scott was named Honorable Mention All-SAA in a press release.

Tarantino made 12 starts for the Majors where he placed second with 62.2 innings pitched and 51 strikeouts. He finished with a solid 3.88 ERA and held opponents to 28 walks.

On Feb. 24, Tarantino helped the Majors claim a 3-1 victory over Westminster with a season-high nine strikeouts and only allowed three hits, two walks and no runs in six innings. The left-handed pitcher also garnered eight strikeouts and no walks, while holding Centre to two runs on April 7.

Wood appeared in 15 games while making 12 starts for the Majors on the mound. The lefty led the team with 70.1 innings pitched and totaled 87 strikeouts, which currently ranks 11th across NCAA Division III.

The Memphis, Tenn., native also ranks in the top 20 with four complete games and paced the Majors with five wins. During Wood's 2024 graduate campaign, he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III Pitcher of the Month for February and to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. Wood totaled a 3.97 ERA and was twice tabbed an SAA Athlete of the Week as well.

On Feb. 23, Wood tossed a career-high 16 strikeouts while helping the Majors take down Westminster, 1-0 with a no-hitter. He amassed a 14-strikeout performance his previous start in a 3-2 win over Edgewood on Feb. 16.

Scott appeared in 40 games with 38 starts for the Majors, switching between catcher and designated hitter. His .297 batting average was second on the squad, while he led the team with four home runs, 28 RBIs, 11 doubles and was tied with a .990 fielding percentage among starters.

His 23 walks and .410 on-base percentage ranked second as well. On Feb. 9, he tallied four RBIs and three doubles in a 17-8 win at LeTourneau. Scott also had a 3-for-4 outing with a pair of doubles at Birmingham-Southern on April 19.
