LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Millsaps volleyball program collected its fifth consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
A record number of more than 1,400 high school and collegiate teams maintained a year-long GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The award bestowed by the AVCA dates back to 1992-93.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
Millsaps volleyball has been academically successful in recent campaigns, earning the honor the last five years and six times in the last seven seasons.
The Majors are scheduled to begin the 2024 season in Shreveport, La., beginning Aug. 29, while the home opener takes place against Huntingdon College on Sept 12.
