Men’s Soccer Falls in Regular-Season Opener to Central Baptist College

Mustangs Take Down Majors, 2-0 at Harper Davis Field on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team put up a tough fight in the regular-season opener, but fell behind in a 2-0 loss to Central Baptist College at Harper Davis Field on Friday.

Millsaps tallied 12 shot attempts while the Mustangs recorded nine tries at goal. The Majors would encounter four corner kicks as Central Baptist College only contested two. The Mustangs had nine fouls while the Majors recorded 17 fouls in a tough match against their opponents.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Hamauei recorded two saves, while classmate Sam Cagle tabbed five shot attempts with two on frame. Freshman Ellis Dykes netted one shot on goal.

Sophomore Ethan Pratt and Fisher DeCamp combined for two shots each, while freshman Kaleb Wilkins and classmate Alden Romano registered one shot attempt apiece.

In the first half, the Majors had back-to-back chances by Cagle and Pratt thwarted in close 15 minutes in. However, Central Baptist College took the lead two minutes later.

Dykes would have a chance to draw the match even with a kick to the bottom center of the goal, but the Mustang keeper made a stop in the 32nd minute. The Mustangs nearly extended their lead with a shot off the left goal post and a follow-up shot in the closing minutes of the first half.

In the second half, Central Baptist would try to build their advantage but would be stopped by Hamauei save in the 47th minute.

The match would become physical as the Mustangs would catch a red card on a hard tackle in the 55th minute. Pratt, Cagle, DeCamp and Wilkins would all have their shots at net with the visitors down to 10 players.

Central Baptist would score in the 80th minute to pull ahead and earn a 2-0 decision.
