JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College women's basketball team returned home after a seven-game road stretch and took down Berry College, 66-55 inside the Hangar Dome on Saturday.
Senior Haley Franklin led the Majors in scoring with 16 points, while shooting 10-of-10 from the foul line. She added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Sophomore Garin Freeman dominated the court with 12 points, three assists, three steals and two boards.
Senior Emily Adams set a season high of 11 points while shooting 4-of-5 from field-goal range and 2-of-3 from long range. Adams also accumulated two rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Junior Elyse Warren (16 rebounds) and sophomore Tia Anderson (five rebounds) both registered eight points against the Vikings.
Millsaps (14-2, 3-0 SAA) outscored Berry (12-5, 2-2 SAA), 21-6 in total bench points; both teams took a 6-6 tie in fastbreak points accumulated.
The Majors took a 6-5 lead in second-chance points, while shooting 22-of-28 (78.6 percent) from the free-throw line. Berry held a narrow 20-18 advantage from points inside the paint over the Majors.
In the opening minutes of the first quarter, both teams battled back and forth on defense.
Warren and Franklin would soon put the Majors on board following a trio of made free throws.
With 3:19 remaining on the first-quarter clock, Adams scored an and-one at the basket.
The Kenner, La., native would then move the Majors ahead, 9-3 following a wide open three-pointer.
Franklin closed the quarter out for the Majors at the charity stripe with two makes and created a 13-7 early cushion.
In the second quarter with 3:51 to go, Anderson drained a three-pointer to move the Majors ahead, 28-15.
Senior Whitney Novak (six points, three rebounds) then netted a trey that was answered by the Vikings, but Millsaps still led, 31-24 at intermission.
In the third quarter, Novak started the Majors off hot from the three-pointer. However, the Vikings would respond back on a 14-2 run to take their first lead of the contest at 38-36.
The Majors, not giving up, saw Anderson take a wide-open three from the corner to give the Majors the lead back by one point.
With the game tied at 41-41, Millsaps soon jumped ahead with a 10-0 run thanks in part to a Franklin and-one and junior Lexus Keyes (five points, two steals) jumper.
Berry cut the deficit down to five points in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, but Warren sank two free throws to build an 11-point lead with 3:37 to go.
Seconds later, Adams would electrify the fans with a corner three-pointer off a Warren assist.
Going on a 10-1 run, a Freeman layup would give Millsaps their largest lead of the game at 15 points with 1:34 on the clock.
Berry would close out the scoring at the free-throw line as Millsaps would secure the victory, 66-55 on Saturday.
