JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's team faced a tough challenge from Berry College, falling 5-1 at Harper Davis Field on Saturday.
Senior Emily Lozano made 14 saves, while facing 39 shots on against her conference opponents.
Freshman Lola Downer scored a goal, with two shots on target out of three total attempts.
Senior Myah Beebe contributed to the team with an assist, enhancing the offensive play. Freshman Hope Monk added a shot on goal.
In the first half, Berry struck the Majors with an early attack. However, Lozano would make a strong save within the first three minutes of the match to build the team momentum.
Moments later, Berry would redirect the ball down and score their first goal in the fifth minute of the match to take a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings would continue attacking the Majors and scored their second goal of the contest in the 11th minute to extend their margin to 2-0.
In the second half, Millsaps would begin challenging the Vikings' defense with an adjusted offensive strategy.
In the 68th minute of the contest, Downer found her way through the gap and connected on a bouncing ball, scoring her second collegiate goal of the season after finding the lower-right corner. Marshall was credited with the assist.
After a strong play by the Majors, Berry would capitalize with three goals in the second half in the 73rd, 74th and 85th minutes to defeat the Majors 5-1 on Saturday.
The Majors will be back in action to face Belhaven at home in the Riverside Derby on Tuesday, Oct. 14, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
