MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued their seasons with a trio of meets over the weekend. On Friday, they competed in a tri-meet against conference opponents at Berry College alongside Centre College, followed by another meet against the Vikings on Saturday inside the Cage Center.
On Saturday, sophomore Chloe Barnard gave her best effort in the pool, finishing third in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.26 seconds, ending the weekend on a strong note.
On Friday, both programs competed against Berry and Centre College. Senior Jackson Van Meter finished ninth in the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.25 seconds and placed 13th in the men's 100-yard freestyle in 55.53 seconds.
On the women's side, Barnard completed the women's 100-yard backstroke in the sixth spot (1:14.71). She also finished her swim in 10th place with a time of 1:05.03 in the 100-yard freestyle.
After competing against the Vikings and Colonels on Friday, the Majors concluded their event in a dual meet with Berry on Saturday.
On the men's side of the pool, Van Meter elevated his performance by finishing fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.32 seconds.
The Jackson, Miss., native also finished seventh in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.26 seconds.
Junior Payton Jones posted a quality third-place showing with a time of 5:55.03 in the 500-yard freestyle in Georgia.
Another strong finisher for the Majors was senior Kaiden Auzenne. He placed sixth in both the men's 100-yard freestyle (54.92 seconds) as well as the men's 100-yard backstroke (1:10.93).
The Majors will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, to compete against Rhodes in the home opener, slated with a noon start at the Grit Training Facility in Flowood, Miss.
