GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Millsaps women's soccer team fell to Southwestern University, 5-0 on the road at Southwestern Varsity Fields in a conference matchup on Friday.
Senior Emily Lozano recorded 13 saves during the match, facing a total of 28 shots. Junior Alex Bremond managed one shot, which was on target, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Sophomore Suzanna Busbee also added pressure with one shot on goal against the Pirates.
In the first half, Southwestern burst out to a 1-0 lead to take charge two minutes into the contest. However two minutes later, Lozano would stop the Pirates with a save to disrupt her opponents' scoring rhythm.
Pushing the ball down the field, the Pirates would soon find some luck once more and extend their margin to 2-0 within the sixth minute.
With eight minutes played on the scoreboard, the Pirates would seize another opportunity to take a 3-0 lead. Busbee, looking for a way to make a comeback for the Majors, would miss a shot just shy to the lower center of the goal, with Southwestern's goalkeeper coming up with the save at the 13th minute.
Southwestern would continue to attack the Majors at the 37th minute with another goal scored to end the first half ahead, 4-0 as the Majors face tough challenges but do not give up as a team.
In the second half, Millsaps defense stepped up as a team, holding the Pirates to just one goal. The Pirates would hold onto their lead the remainder of the contest to take down the Majors 5-0 on Friday.
The Majors will remain on the road to face Trinity on Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, beginning at 11 am. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
