Men's Soccer Takes Impressive Win over Centre in SAA Opener

Ellis Dykes Records Goal, Hamauei Grabs Shutout in 1-0 Triumph

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's soccer team continued to shine with a tremendous, teamwork effort, downing Centre College, 1-0 in the SAA opener on Friday night at Harper Davis Field.

The Majors' snapped an 12-match winless streak (0-11-1) against the Colonels, with the last win occurring on October 9, 2016.

Senior Michael Hamauei recorded 10 saves and secured his sixth career shutout in the 1-0 victory. The 10-save performance was the most by Hamauei in his collegiate career in a shutout.

Sophomore Ellis Dykes brought the heat offensively, scoring his third goal of the season, including three shots with two shots on goal. Freshman Christian Lopez contributed the only assist for the Majors in the match in an outstanding defensive performance.

The first half began with Millsaps (6-1-2, 1-0 SAA) taking an early lead, courtesy of a goal by Dykes in the 10th minute, assisted by Lopez. The Majors maintained pressure, with Hamauei making crucial saves against Centre (1-5-4, 0-1 SAA) attempts.

As the half progressed, Millsaps' defense held firm, repelling multiple corner kicks and shots from the visiting team. The home team closed the half leading 1-0, maintaining their advantage as they entered the break.

The Majors' defense held firm throughout the second half. Dykes provided a notable offensive opportunity for the Majors with a shot on goal in the 64th minute, but it was saved by Centre's goalkeeper.

The half was marked by several fouls and yellow cards, indicating a tense and competitive atmosphere. Millsaps managed to keep Centre scoreless, concluding the match with a 1-0 victory.
