JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's soccer team kept their heads held high despite falling, 2-1 to Centre College in a hard-fought match on Friday night at Harper Davis Field.
Senior
Emily Lozano recorded a season-high 14 saves in goal, splitting them evenly across two halves with seven saves in each.
Sophomore
Suzanna Busbee scored the team's lone goal, converting her only shot into a successful finish.
Freshman
Rowan Crovetto contributed with an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts in the match.
The first half started with Centre applying early pressure, but Lozano made back-to-back key saves in the seventh and eighth on the score clock to maintain a scoreless game.
In the 29th minute, Millsaps seized momentum when Busbee scored with an assist from Crovetto, putting the Majors ahead 1-0. Busbee found open space in the middle of the field, made a move around the keeper and finished in the middle of the frame.
However, Centre responded with equalizing efforts, eventually leveling the score at 1-1 in the 40th minute with a goal scoring to conclude the first half tied at 1-1. A shot found the upper-right corner from five yards outside the box.
The second half began with Millsaps defending against multiple attempts from Centre. Lozano made five crucial saves between the 46th and 53rd minutes, which kept the score level.
As the half progressed, Centre maintained offensive pressure, which eventually led to a goal in the 82nd minute. Despite Millsaps' efforts to counter, the half concluded with Centre holding a 2-1 lead over the Majors.
