CANTON, Ga. — The Millsaps College football team made history by sweeping the Southern Athletic Association Football Athlete of the Week honors on Monday. Sophomore
Connor Babin, freshman
Grant Bizjack and junior
Nate Johnson were recognized following a league-wide Sports Information Directors' vote and announcement by the SAA office.
Babin secured his third SAA Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week plaudit, Bizjack tallied his fifth SAA Football Offensive Athlete of the Week accolade and Johnson was named the SAA Football Defensive Athlete of the Week. It is the first-ever time the Majors have swept all three awards in the SAA, dating back to 2012. Millsaps last swept three league honors in the same week in 2008 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) with
Michael Galatas (Special Teams),
Jacob Hanberry (Defensive) and
Juan Joseph (Offensive).
Bizjack made further history by becoming the first Millsaps football student-athlete to be recognized by the SAA on five occasions in a single season. The last Major to earn five weekly conference accolades was
Kelvin Gladney with five in the SCAC in 1994.
On Saturday, Babin was terrific, powering the Majors to a 34-20 triumph over Sewanee during Senior Day. The kicker was perfect converting two field goals of 26 and 28 yards, while connecting on all four extra-point attempts. He added seven kickoffs that traveled 423 yards (60.4-yard average).
Bizjack posted a solid performance under center, totaling 355 yards of offense. He completed 15-of-23 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown, adding a career-best 161 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Johnson was a force leading the defense with seven tackles, one sack, an interception and forced a fumble. The defensive lineman's sack forced a fumble in the second quarter, while his interception with just over two minutes remaining sealed the victory.
