Women's Basketball Dominates Paint in 73-60 Win Over LeTourneau

Elyse Warren, Garin Freeman Lead Majors with Double-Doubles on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's basketball team secured a 73-60 win over LeTourneau University inside the Hangar Dome on Friday, thanks to a powerful performance in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory.

Millsaps converted 28 of 37 free throws and dominated the paint with 36 points, while forcing 22 turnovers for 22 points. LeTourneau narrowed the gap in the third quarter but was unable to overcome Millsaps' lead, despite 13 steals.

Senior Elyse Warren finished with a career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds adding a double-double in a Friday's triumph , making 8 of 11 field goals and converting 8 of 9 free throws.

Junior Garin Freeman recorded a double-double with 11 points and  a career-best of 10 rebounds while adding seven assists.

Senior Lexus Keyes scored 14 points and tallied four steals in the contest. Freshman Kiayalee King contributed by converting 6 of 8 free throws. Junior Tia Anderson recorded 10 points, one steal and an assist

In the first quarter, Warren was instrumental, scoring multiple layups, including a fast-break basket at 4:56, which extended their lead to 8-3.

The Majors maintained control through defensive rebounds and efficient free-throw shooting. Keyes closed the quarter with two free throws, giving Millsaps a 15-9 advantage over the YellowJackets.

In the second quarter, Millsaps took an 18-11 lead when junior Mya Richardson made an early 3-pointer off the backboard at 9:21, assisted by Anderson, giving the Majors the advantage. 

Keyes caught fire, sinking a three-pointer from the sideline at 5:34 with a pass from Freeman, then following it up with a fast-break layup at 4:43, sending the Hangar Dome into a frenzy.

Freeman was busy in the last minute, making a layup with 52 seconds left and another with 11 seconds remaining, as defenders struggled to block her driving layups, which helped increase the Majors' lead. 

LeTourneau made consecutive free throws at 0:41, but it was not enough to close the gap. At halftime, the score was 33-20 in favor of Millsaps.

Millsaps kept their lead as sophomore Anaya Lewis made a layup and a free throw with 1:03 remaining, extending the score to 49-38. Millsaps stayed strong to finish the quarter.

The Majors extended their lead early in the fourth quarter with Keyes hitting a 3-pointer at 8:47, assisted by Freeman, which pushed the score to 52-38. 

Shortly after, Warren was fouled and made two free throws. Keyes received two technical fouls against LeTournea's coach, pushing the Majors' lead to 20 points.  

Moments after that, Warren scored on her own rebound, increasing the Majors' lead to their biggest advantage in the game by 22 points, ahead 62-40.

King scored the final points for the Majors at the charity stripe, helping Millsaps maintain their lead and securing a 73-60 win on Friday.

The Majors will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 29 to tip off the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic against Austin College beginning at 1 p.m. inside the Hangar Dome with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
