Majors Triumph over Lynx, 72-62 on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. The Millsaps women's basketball team raced past Rhodes College, 72-62 inside the Hangar Dome on Saturday afternoon.

Seniors Emily Adams, Taylor Frank, Haley Franklin and Whitney Novak were recognized on Senior Day for their incredible hard work on the court throughout their years at Millsaps College.

Franklin became the program's all-time leading scorer in just her third season. She passed Velvet Johnson's 1,446 points (2011-15).

Franklin led all scoring with 25 points, while adding a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Baton Rouge, La., native shot 9-of-18 from the floor, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 5-of-7 at the foul line.

The guard also added three assists and one steal to her accolades in 35 minutes on the court.

Sophomore Garin Freeman registered 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals against the Lynx. She shot 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Junior Elyse Warren posted 10 points and eight rebounds. The Memphis, Tenn., product shot 2-of-3 from the foul lane and 2-of-3 inside the interior.

Millsaps (19-3, 8-1 SAA) rolled past Rhodes (5-17, 3-7 SAA), 12-7 in fast break points, 21-13 in second chance points and 21-16 in total bench points accumulated.

The Majors took a huge 21-8 margin in points off turnovers while leading 26-24 in points inside the paint.

In the first quarter, Rhodes took a 5-2 lead before Franklin's corner three-pointer tied the contest at 5-5.

After Franklin's trey, a Freeman long-range shot gave Millsaps their first lead of the contest by one at 8-7.

With 3:02 remaining in the first quarter, sophomore Tia Anderson banked another three from behind the arch to move the Majors ahead, 17-11.

Warren's layup gave Millsaps their last pair of points before the Lynx ended the first quarter with six straight points with both teams tied at 19-19.

In the second quarter, Millsaps held the Lynx to just nine points. Novak opened with a crucial three before Freeman stole the ball on defense, 1:30 in.

Adams netted a trey of her own to extend Millsaps' lead by eight points at 29-21.

The Majors continued to hold onto their advantage as Franklin set the tone for the team, scoring a free throw from the charity stripe and a layup shortly after, giving Millsaps their last pair of points.

The Lynx shortly after converted an and-one to close out the first half with Millsaps still in front, 34-28.

In the third quarter, Franklin's layup pushed the Majors ahead into double digits by 11 points at 47-36.

Freeman concluded the quarter with four made free throws to continue the Majors scoring distance over Rhodes, 53-42.
