Pair of Three-Run Homers Propel Softball Past Rhodes on Saturday

Hailey Peterson, Ella Morgan Sears Touch ‘em All as Majors Top Lynx, 10-0

JACKSON, Miss.  The Millsaps softball team improved to 3-1 in conference play after taking down Rhodes, 10-0 in a sound, five-inning win at the Millsaps College Softball Complex on Saturday.

Sophomore Ella Morgan Sears powered a three-run, walk-off homer to put the run-rule into play in the bottom of the fifth. She batted 2-for-2 with four RBIs, three runs, walked, stole a base and was hit by a pitch.

Freshman Hailey Peterson also muscled a three-run homer and scored a run.

Junior Kinsey Smith (double, run), freshman Kodi Jimmie (RBI double), senior Alli Nolen (double, two walks), freshman Brynn Arena (two runs, double, stolen base), sophomore Kadence Cannon (two runs, RBI) and classmate Allana Vasquez (RBI, run, walk) each tallied a hit.

Vasquez also excelled in the circle, holding the Lynx to one hit and no runs without a walk in 5.0 innings. She struck out four opponents for Millsaps (14-8, 3-1 SAA).

In the bottom of the third inning, Smith led the Majors off with a double to left field. Sears would be hit by a pitch before Peterson downed the Lynx with a three-run homer to left field, giving Millsaps an early 3-0 lead.

The Majors continued to attack the Lynx in the bottom of the fourth frame with four runs.

Arena stole second base after reaching first base on an error. Cannon then singled through the left side to score Arena, extending the Major lead to 4-0.

Millsaps kept their hot streak alive after Sears smashed a double to right-center field leading Cannon home base and extend the margin to 5-0.

Trailing by five runs, the Lynx struggled to keep the Majors off home plate.

Vasquez hit a single up the middle, allowing Sears to reach home plate. Jimmie stepped in with another double for the Majors with Vasquez scoring to put the Majors ahead at 7-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sears sealed the victory in Game One with a three-run homer, which activated the run-rule. Arena and Cannon touched home plate in front of the excited Sears as her teammates embraced her efforts in a circle at home. Millsaps topped the Lynx, 10-0.

The Majors will next honor Alumni Day and give out the 2025 Beacon Award prior to first pitch on Sunday. Millsaps faces Rhodes in a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
