Majors Down Owls, 6-1 on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team handled business in their season opener by taking MUW, 6-1 on Friday night at Harper Davis Field.

The Majors outshot the Owls, 26-3 with 11 making it on frame. Additionally, Millsaps generated a 10-0 corner kick disparity.

Freshman Myles Walden looked impressive in his collegiate debut. He led the Majors with two goals scored, including the game-winner, and three shot attempts while adding two shots on goal.

Classmate Raul Blandon erupted in his collegiate debut also with one goal scored, two assists and three shots on goal.

Redshirt freshman Daniel Lee and freshman Dylan Speaks both registered one goal in their collegiate openers as well.

Sophomore Ellis Dykes tallied one goal scored, two shot attempts and a shot on goal to help the Majors soar past the Owls.

Freshman Abram Lawless and sophomore Drake Dilodovico both registered assists.

Senior Michael Hamauei saw 63 minutes of playing time in the first half, while sophomore Alden Davenport defended the goalpost with 27 minutes of playing time in the second half.

Dykes would give the Majors their first goal of the season following a left-footed kick to the high center of frame, with the assist credited to Blandon in the 24th minute.

Millsaps continued threatening the Owls as Walden ran full speed towards the goalpost and collected a give-and-go pass from Dilodovico to score inside the net moments into the 32nd minute, giving the Majors a 2-0 lead.

The Majors would see their last tally of the first half after Speaks recorded his first collegiate goal from his right foot as the ball rolled into the lower center part of goal in the 37th minute before halftime.

In the second half, the Majors added more pressure against their opponents as Lee secured his first collegiate marker to move the Majors ahead at 4-0. The Bossier, La., native would connect on a cross from Blandon and he was cheered on by his teammates.

However, MUW found their luck when an unassisted goal to give the Owls their first score of the contest, bringing the scoreboard to 4-1 in the 51st minute of action.

After being credited with an assist early in the second half, Blandon remained hot after a left-foot kick to the lower left of the goal would push the Majors ahead to 5-1 in the 61st minute.

Walden put the matchup to rest after receiving a pass from Lawless to score his second goal of the contest with just over 19 minutes remaining on the clock.

As the clock wound down in the second half, the Majors would celebrate amongst each other and their fans after taking down the Owls, 6-1 on Friday.
