Men's Soccer Draws with Pensacola Christian, 1-1

Abram Lawless Nets an Early Goal in Defensive Effort on Thursday

JACKSON, Miss. — Millsaps College men's soccer and Pensacola Christian College played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday at Harper Davis Field.

Millsaps opened the scoring with a goal in the first half, but Pensacola Christian quickly responded to level the match. The teams remained deadlocked through the second half, with Millsaps managing eight shots on goal while Pensacola Christian's goalkeeper recorded six saves to preserve the tie.

Sophomore Drew McKeithen recorded an assist and contributed one shot on goal for Millsaps. freshman Abram Lawless scored a goal and took two shots, both on target. Freshman Raul Blandon led the team in shots on goal, converting both of his attempts into scoring opportunities. Sophomore Ellis Dykes added pressure with three shots, all of which were on goal.

The first half kicked off with Millsaps taking an early lead in the 7th minute, as Lawless scored with an assist from McKeithen. Pensacola Christian equalized in the 11th minute with a goal from Samir Vieira Siqueira. Despite some defensive fouls, Millsaps maintained pressure with three corner kicks, but the half concluded in a 1-1 tie.

The second half commenced with Millsaps displaying a strong offensive presence, highlighted by Blandon's early shot on goal at the 46:09 mark, which was saved by Pensacola's goalkeeper Bryce Hammond.

Dykes created multiple opportunities with three shots on target, though each was thwarted by Hammond. As the half progressed, Millsaps continued to pressure, earning three corner kicks, the last occurring at the 89:18 mark, underscoring their aggressive play until the final whistle. Despite these efforts, the half concluded without a change in the scoreline, leaving the match level at 1-1.

Millsaps holds an overall record of 2-0-2, while Pensacola Christian stands at 3-1-2 overall after the match.
