CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — Millsaps women's soccer and University of the Ozarks played to a scoreless draw on Sunday at Thomas and Frances Wilson Soccer Field. Senior goalkeeper
Emily Lozano made seven saves to secure her seventh career shutout.
The Eagles recorded an eight-save shutout of their own. Both teams registered 12 shots, with Millsaps placing eight on target.
The first half began with Lozano making a crucial save against a shot from Carley Garcia in the opening minutes, setting the tone for a defensive battle.
Millsaps' offensive efforts were highlighted by freshman
Lola Downer, who had six shot attempts and four shots on goal, including a close attempt in the 22nd minute that was saved by the Eagles' goalkeeper, Jayla Lucas.
The Majors had a flurry of on-target attempts in quick succession in the opening minutes, including a shot by classmate
Eliana Candebat and fellow freshman
Hope Monk.
Despite several opportunities for both teams, the half concluded scoreless, with Lozano making key saves to keep the Majors in contention.
The second half began with Downer attempting an early shot just two minutes in, which went wide, setting the tone for a tense half. Millsaps continued to press, with junior
Alex Bremond and Downer both testing Lucas, though each effort was saved. Bremond contributed three shots, two of which were on target in the match.
Lozano continued to stand firm in goal for Millsaps, making key saves in the 70th, 79th and 80th minutes to maintain the deadlock. Downer had one final shot saved in the 87th minute as both teams battled to a scoreless draw by the end of regulation.
The Majors will remain on the road and face Centenary College on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m.
