Women's Soccer Falls to Centenary in Shreveport

Ladies Take Down Majors, 1-0 on Friday

SHREVEPORT, La. — The Millsaps women's soccer team fell short to Centenary College, 1-0 after displaying a hard-fought battle at Mayo Field on Friday. The decisive goal came late in the second half, highlighting a match where both teams displayed solid defense against each other.

Senior Emily Lozano recorded four saves for the Majors, while the Ladies posted seven shots on goal.

Freshman Hope Monk finished with two shots on goal. Sophomore Suzanna Busbee added two shots, maintaining pressure on the opposition's defense.

Graduate Lily Butcher, freshman Lola Downerseniors Myah Beebe and Keely Marshall and freshman Eliana Candebat each record a shot and a shot on goal demonstrating their accuracy in attempts.

In the first half, Candebat started the Majors threat early with a shot in the 11th minute, but Centenary's goalkeeper would come down with the save too keep the ball from going inside the net.

Lozano keeping the defense going would not back down either. The Mesquite, Texas, native altered a shot in front of the goalpost in the 16th minute on the clock to keep the Ladies away from the goal cage.

Playing tough and physical, both teams would end the first half scoreless, led by a dominant defensive performance.

In the second half, both competitors continued to show a strong defensive presence on the field. However, in the 81st minute of the scoreboard, Centenary would find fortune and score off a corner kick.

Looking to tie the contest, Monk, Busbee, and senior Haley James would all contest great shots in the 86th and 87th minutes in a final flurry of chances.

As the matchup came to a conclusion, Centenary would take down the Majors 1-0 on Friday.

The Majors will return home on Sunday to face Austin College, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
