JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's soccer team fell, 4-1 to Austin College on Sunday at Harper Davis Field.
Austin College boasted four second-half goals while the Majors defense faced a barrage of 26 shot attempts.
Senior Emily Lozano recorded 12 saves in over 90 minutes as a goalkeeper, facing 16 shots on frame. Junior Alex Bremond scored one goal from three total shots, with one shot on goal. Freshman Lola Downer provided an assist and managed one shot on goal. Graduate Lily Butcher posted two shots on target offensively.
In the first half, Lozano delivered a standout performance, recording six critical saves to keep the match level. Graduate Lily Butcher's shot was saved early in the ninth minute before Bremond's rebound attempt veered off target by the right post shortly after.
The Millsaps defense would remain firm, repeatedly denying Austin's attacks, including a crucial save by Lozano on a 20th-minute shot, as the first half concluded scoreless.
In the second half, Austin took an early lead, scoring in the 50th and 52nd minutes. The Majors responded with determination, and in the 65th minute Bremond capitalized on an assist by Downer to narrow the gap to 2-1. Bremond's shot rolled by the Austin goalkeeper on the ground in the center of the frame.
Despite Lozano's efforts in goal making several key saves, Austin extended their lead with two more goals, securing a 4-1 victory by the end of the half.
The Majors will be back in action on Wednesday to host Tougaloo College at Harper Davis Field, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
