Men’s Soccer Takes Down Lyon College, 3-1 on Senior Day

Walden, Bell, Blandon, Clinical Goal Scoring Defeat Scots on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps men's soccer team defeated Lyon College, 3-1 on Sunday at Harper Davis Field. Before the match, the Majors recognized the hard working seniors who lead by example both on and off the field, Sam Cagle, Michael Hamauei, Lane Kirk, Hogan Payne and graduate Alfredo Espinosa on Senior Day.

The Millsaps (4-0-2) defense limited Lyon College (2-3-2) to just one goal from three shots on target.

Freshman Brady Bell scored one goal and added an assist, including the game-winning goal for the Majors.

Freshman Raul Blandon found the back of the net once, converting one of his two shots into a goal. Classmate Myles Walden tallied a goal with one of his two shots on target. Sophomore Harrison Williams contributed an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts.

Senior Michael Hamauei recorded two saves in the second half to propel the Majors past the Scots and faced 14 shot attempts.

In the first half, the Scots attempted to capitalize with a shot in the 10th minute that would sail wide outside the goal post.

However, speeding down the sidelines, Bell connected with Walden on a cross down the field. Walden, looking to score, sent the ball through the keeper at the 40th minute, giving the Majors a 1-0 lead.

Shortly afterward, Bell had his moment to shine with seven seconds before half time by scoring off a free kick right outside the box, hitting the top-left corner to give the Majors a 2-0 lead.

Brady's teammates sprinted toward him to congratulate him for scoring his first collegiate goal, as fans cheered him on as well.

Staying focused, Millsaps continued to apply pressure in the second half, as Harrison created open space to find Blandon on a forward pass to score a goal at the 54th minute, giving the Majors a 3-0 lead. Blandon booted the ball from 65 yards out at midfileld over the Lyon keeper's head.

Following the Majors' success with high-quality goals, the Scots responded in the 59th minute with a goal off a header, narrowing the score to 3-1.

Despite multiple attempts by Lyon, including a saved shot in the 64th and 86th minutes and several corner kicks, Millsaps maintained their composure throughout the match to secure a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

The Majors will be back in action on Wednesday and Tougaloo College at Harper Davis Field, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
