JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's soccer team dominated Tougaloo College with a decisive 13-0 victory on Wednesday at Harper Davis Field. It marks the most goals the Majors have scored in a single game in program history.
Last season the Majors set the program record with a 12-0 decision against the same Bulldog squad. Wednesday's contest was cut to 70 minutes due to severe weather.
Millsaps delivered an impressive first half, scoring 10 goals and added three more in the second half.
The Majors maintained control throughout, registering 24 shots, 20 on goal, while holding Tougaloo to just two shot attempts.
Freshman Keila Torres saw her first collegiate start at goalkeeper, where she posted a clean sheet with one save. Classmate Jordyn Templeton scored once and assisted on three goals, posting two of her shots on goal.
Junior Alex Bremond recorded a hat trick and added an assist, finishing with all three of her shots on target. Sophomore Suzanna Busbee erupted against her cross-town opponents with two goals, an assist and three shots.
Senior Haley James contributed to the team with a goal and an assist.
Freshman Ava Sutton recorded three shots, two shots on goal, and netted two goals against the Bulldogs.
Classmates Alicia Olivas and Rowan Crovetto each registered a goal scored and an assist, while seniors Keely Marshall and Myah Beebe each added a goal each as well. Beebe tallied her first career goal and added a game- and career-high four shots on goal with five attempts.
Freshmen Hope Monk and Anahi Sanchez both generated an assist to close out the scoring.
Millsaps took control early in the first half, with Sutton opening the scoring in the third minute of the contest.
Busbee quickly followed with a goal, assisted by Sutton, to double the lead. Bremond added another goal, assisted by Templeton, bringing the score to 3-0 within the first five minutes.
Millsaps maintained offensive pressure, with Sutton scoring again in the 11th minute to keep the Majors on fire.
The team continued to capitalize on their opportunities, with Bremond and Beebe each adding goals, increasing the advantage to 6-0 by the 17th minute.
As the half continued, Templeton and Busbee each scored another goal, with assists from Monk as well as Bremond and Crovetto, respectively.
Millsaps extended their lead to 9-0 with Bremond's second goal, assisted by Busbee.
The half closed with Olivas scoring in the 44th minute, assisted by Sanchez, bringing the score to 10-0.
The second half began with Millsaps maintaining their momentum, as Marshall found the back of the net in the 54th minute with an assist from Templeton.
The Majors quickly extended their lead when James scored in the 58th minute, again with an assist from Templeton.
Millsaps continued their offensive push with Crovetto adding another goal in the 59th minute, assisted by Olivas.
The half closed with Millsaps solidifying their advantage, finishing the match with a 13-0 scoreline.
