Women's Soccer Stopped by Piedmont on Sunday

Majors Fall to Lions, 4-0 in Non-Conference Action

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's soccer team gave their best effort to Piedmont University, but fell 4-0 on Sunday at Harper Davis Field.

Piedmont delivered a decisive second-half performance where they scored three times. The Majors managed six shots, with one on goal.

Senior Emily Lozano recorded five saves in the match, showcasing resilience against 26 shots faced. Junior Alex Bremond led the team in shooting efforts, registering two shots with one on target.

Gradaute Lily Butcher and freshman Lola Downer also contributed to the team with two shot attempts.

In the first half, Millsaps faced early pressure, with Lozano making a crucial save in the third minute to keep the Lions at bay.

Despite a defensive stand by the Majors, Piedmont soon found the back of the soccer net in the 34th minute with a goal.

Lozano continued to show toughness at the soccer post, recording another save in the 36th minute. The half concluded with the Majors trailing 1-0, looking to reverse the momentum in the second half.

The second half saw Millsaps making defensive efforts early to put pressure on Piedmont, with Lozano saving a shot in front of the soccer post within in the 74th minute.

The Majors had a notable attempt from Bremond  at the bottom of the box in the 63rd minute, but her kick would be saved by the Lions goalkeeper.

Piedmont increased their lead shortly after the break with two goals in both the 57th and 79th minutes. The Lions offensive continued to build with another goal by the team in the 82nd minute, to extend their advantage.

The Majors continued to fight as a team, but Piedmont secured a 4-0 victory on Sunday.
