Women’s Soccer Falls to LeTourneau in Texas

Yellowjackets Sting Majors, 3-0 on Saturday

LONGVIEW, Texas —The Millsaps women's soccer team fought to the very last minute but was bettered by LeTourneau University, 3-0 on Saturday at the LETU Soccer field.

The Yellowjackets scored once in the first half and added two more goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Sophomore Suzanna Busbee led the team in offensive attempts, finishing with three shots, two of which were on goal.

Graduate Lily Butcher, junior Alex Bremond and freshman Hope Monk each contributed one shot attempt in the game against the Yellowjackets as well.

Senior Emily Lozano put up a tremendous effort by recording 11 saves in the match, with six saves coming in the first half and five in the second.

In the first half, the Yellowjackets stopped Busbee's shot early. However, Lozano was active while making multiple defensive stops at the goal.

A goal by the Yellowjackets' in the 22nd minute would be the only score in the opening half, leading to a 1-0 deficit at the break.

In the second half, LeTourneau expanded their lead quickly by scoring in the 51st minute to make it 2-0 and scoring shortly afterwards in the 54th minute to extend their lead by three goals.

The Majors tried to respond with a kick from Butcher in the 55th minute but it would miss the goal post by a small margin. Nearly 10 minutes later Busbee found another shot make it on target, but it was stopped as well.

Despite several attempts by the Yellowjackets, the score remained unchanged for the rest of the second half, as they secured a decisive victory.

The Majors will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 12 to continue their non-conference matchups against Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
