Garin Freeman Records 17 Points, Nine Assists in Tough Loss

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's basketball team fell short to Trinity University in conference action, 68-56 inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.

Millsaps (11-5, 2-3 SAA) displayed a strong defensive effort in today's matchup with 38 rebounds and three blocks, but were unable to overcome 20 turnovers, which led to 28 points for the Tigers.

Trinity (9-7, 5-0 SAA) capitalized with a balanced attack, highlighted by a key 20-point third quarter to maintain their unbeaten conference record.

JunioGarin Freeman scored 17 points and posted nine assists while accumulating six rebounds.

Senior Elyse Warren collected a double-double of 15 rebounds and 12 points, while also tallying three steals.

Junior Tia Anderson finished with 13 points, including three treys. She also grabbed eight rebounds against the Tigers.

Sophomore Ashlyn Hafley recorded nine points while converting three shots from beyond the arc.

In the first quarter, Anderson helped the Majors get off to a strong start with two 3-pointers to jump out to a 6-2 lead.

Warren also was a big contributor on the defensive side of the ball, helping extend the Majors' lead to 13-8.

The Tigers battled back towards the end of the quarter to cut the lead down to 17-11. After a cluster of timely shots and rebounds, the Tigers were able to tie the contest, 17-17 to end the quarter.

A missed shot by the Tigers in the second quarter and a rebound by Freeman set up Hafley to hit a 3-pointer early to help extend the lead back up to 23-17.

Throughout the quarter, the Tigers were able to rally back into the game. A Warren rebound with five minutes left in the quarter led to a 3-pointer by senior Maddie Maw to give the Majors another 6-point lead.

With about 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Tigers were able to tie the game back up at 32-32 and go into the half with a 37-32 lead after a 9-0 run.

Coming out of the half, the Tigers led by 15 points to build distance between them and the Majors after the third quarter. The Majors continued to play physical but were unable to close the gap the rest of the game and fell, 68-56 to Trinity on Sunday.
