DANVILLE, Ky. — The Millsaps College men's basketball team (10-3, 1-1 SAA) fell to Centre College (8-4, 1-1 SAA) on Friday night, 94-65 inside Alumni Gymnasium.
Millsaps struggled to contain Centre's perimeter shooting, as the home team connected on 17 three-pointers at 40.5 percent.
Despite the loss, the Majors secured 41 rebounds and scored 34 points in the paint. The defeat marked a challenging Southern Athletic Association matchup on the road.
Junior David Combest Jr. tied a season-high 14 points while adding seven rebounds and three assets. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native also shot 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Classmate Jaxon Toney added 12 points and recorded five rebounds, along with a blocked shot on defense. Senior Caleb Kent scored seven points and secured three rebounds.
Junior Cameron Lumar tallied five points and grabbed four rebounds, while collecting one steal against the Colonels.
Millsaps opened the game with a strong start, as junior Davion James hit a 3-pointer giving the visitors an early 3–0 lead. Toney contributed significantly in the paint with a layup a minute later and another midway into the half, helping the Majors maintain a competitive edge through the half.
Despite their efforts, Millsaps struggled with turnovers, tallying eight in the first half, which allowed Centre to capitalize and gradually pull ahead. The half ended with Centre leading, 47–33.
The Majors faced a challenging second half as Centre surged forward with a strong offensive display. The deficit grew after the Colonels opened up the half on a 16-3 run.
Centre maintained control from there to finish with a 94–65 victory.
