Women’s Basketball Dominates Centre, 80-57 on Friday

Major Trio Tally Double-Doubles in Home Action

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's basketball team defeated Centre College with an impressive 80-57 victory inside The Hangar Dome on Friday. 
 
Millsaps (16-6, 7-4 SAA) dominated in the paint, scoring 46 points and capitalizing on 18 turnovers from Centre (18-5, 8-4 SAA) for 17 points, securing the win with a strong second half, outscoring Centre 49-29 in the final two quarters. 
 
Junior Tia Anderson led the Majors with a career-high 27 points while adding a double-double in her conference matchup against the Colonels tonight. 
 
The Brusley, La., native shot 10-of-18 from the floor, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. 
 
Junior Garin Freeman scored 22 points and recorded 11 assists, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts following her double-double performance.

Freeman powered her way through the Colonels defense shooting 8-of-13 from field goal range and 6-of-11 from the free-throw line. 
 
The Little Rock, Ark., product is currently ranked third in NCAA Division III women's basketball with 135 assists on the season. 
 
Senior Elyse Warren delivered a strong double-double performance, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, proving to be a dominant force inside the paint. 
 
Warren is currently tied for sixth in NCAA Division III women's basketball with 17 double-doubles on the season.
 
Senior Maddy Maw dominated the Colonels with a career-high 19 points, the guard went 7-of-8 from the floor and recorded two steals and one block on defense. 
 
The opening frame began with Millsaps asserting an early advantage, initiated by Anderson's three-pointer just 21 seconds into the game. 
 
Anderson continued her strong performance with a layup at 8:30, following a nifty pass from Freeman helping to extend the Majors lead to 5-0. 
 
Centre responded with a jumper, however the Majors maintained their edge with contributions from Freeman and Maw, pushing the score to 13-6. 
 
Despite Centre's efforts to close the gap, highlighted by a jumper, Millsaps ended the quarter with a 17-12 lead, capped by another three-pointer from Anderson with six seconds as Freeman continued to find Anderson in the open spots on the court. 
 
Millsaps capitalized on its shooting from beyond the arc in the first quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, including a late one by Anderson at 0:06, to secure a narrow lead. 
 
In the second quarter, Centre edged Millsaps 16-14, narrowing the home team's lead. 
 
Key moments included Warren's layup at 9:12, which extended the early lead for the Majors. 
 
Anderson added to the scoring with a jumper at the 8:01 mark to keep the Majors fire going. 
 
Centre's three-pointer at 5:39 brought the visitors closer, and a jumper with 1:09 left further reduced their deficit. 
 
Despite the Majors' early control, Centre's late push brought the game to a tighter margin at halftime. 
 
Millsaps maintained its momentum throughout the second quarter with a strong start, highlighted by Warren's layup at 9:12, assisted by Freeman, which extended the lead. 
 
The team capitalized on Centre's turnovers and increased its advantage through contributions from Anderson, who added two free throws at 6:48. 
 
Despite Centre's attempts to close the gap, including a jumper by Tessa Miles at 1:09, Millsaps held a narrow lead. The quarter ended with Millsaps leading 31-28. 
 
Millsaps dominated the third quarter against Centre, outscoring the visitors 25-12. Anderson led the charge with multiple layups, including one at 6:54 that extended the lead to 39-31. 
 
Freeman contributed with key assists and a pivotal layup at 5:38, drawing a foul and sinking the free throw to make it 42-31. 
 
Warren added to the momentum with a layup at 4:14, assisted by Maw, who later hit a three-pointer. 
 
Millsaps' defensive pressure, highlighted by steals from Freeman and Anderson, helped maintain their advantage going into the final quarter. 
 
Millsaps dominated the third quarter, starting with a strong inside presence, scoring 18 points in the paint. Hafley and Warren were pivotal in this effort, each contributing key layup. 
 
Freeman facilitated multiple assists, including a setup for Anderson's successful layup at 6:54. Millsaps also capitalized on Centre's turnovers, converting them into points, and extended its lead with Maw's 3-pointer at 2:39. 
 
The quarter ended with Millsaps leading 56–40, outscoring Centre 25–12. 
 
Millsaps took control in the fourth quarter, starting with a layup by Maw at 9:18, extending its lead to 58-40. The home team's offensive efficiency was highlighted by Freeman's layup at 8:38, contributing to a 60-43 advantage. 
 
A late 3-pointer by Anderson with 13 seconds left sealed the Majors' commanding performance.
