Women’s Basketball Roars Past Sewanee, 77-55

Trio of Majors Record Double Figures in Scoring on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps women's basketball team topped Sewanee, 77-55 in a dominate win on Sunday inside the Hangar Dome. 
 
Millsaps capitalized (17-6, 8-4 SAA) on Sewanee's (8-16, 1-12 SAA) 21 turnovers, generating 24 points and maintaining a rebounding edge with 41 total boards. The Majors led by 2points in the paint, contributing to its decisive win. 
 
Junior Garin Freeman scored 19 points, recorded five assists, and collected three steals. 
 
Senior Elyse Warren contributed with a double-double, tallying 14 points and securing 17 rebounds. 
 
Classmate Maddy Maw added 12 points and provided three assists after coming off an impressive win against Centre on Friday. 
 
The first quarter began with Millsaps taking an early lead, initiated by Freeman's jumper. 
 
Junior Tia Anderson capitalized on a defensive rebound by converting two free throws further solidifying the lead. 
 
Warren closed the quarter strongly for Millsaps, scoring a layup and a free throw and later adding two more free throws after an offensive rebound as time expired, securing a 22-10 lead. 
 
Millsaps dominated the second quarter against Sewanee, outscoring the Tigers 32-10. 

Freeman led the charge, contributing to the scoring with a three-pointer and a layup just before the buzzer. 
 
Maw also added to the home team's momentum with consecutive baskets, including a three-pointer assisted by Freeman. 
 
The third quarter saw the Majors and Sewanee each score 14 points, maintaining Millsaps' substantial lead. 
 
Warren contributed significantly, with an early free throw and a layup, assisted by Freeman. 
 
Millsaps maintained a strong lead throughout the fourth quarter, despite Sewanee's efforts to close the gap. 
 
Sophomore Dove Leach contributed with a jumper in the paint to push the score to 70-34. 
 
Sewanee attempted a comeback with a three-pointer and scoring from the free-throw line, but Millsaps responded with a three-pointer from freshman Zyon Moffite that was assisted by classmate Kiayalee King, to extend its lead.  
 
The Majors next continue their four-game homestand and host Berry College, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
