Baseball Takes Down Edgewood in Weekend Series

Majors Claim Two of Three Wins Against Eagles

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps baseball team faced off against Edgewood University over the weekend, resulting in a thrilling series that included a two-out-of-three-games victory at Twenty Field.

Game 1: Millsaps 5, Edgewood 4

Sophomore Wes Carr recorded two home runs and four RBIs, while senior Sam Thomas added a solo home run.

Classmate EJ Ousley crossed home plate twice, and freshman Carter Guillory's pitching performance was pivotal in the win.

Freshman Dylon Lozano pitched three innings on the hill, allowing four hits, but no earned runs, striking out three batters.

Sophomore Cam Cressend relieved for four innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out four hitters.

Guillory closed the game with a strong performance, pitching two innings without allowing a hit and striking out five batters.

Millsaps edged out Edgewood University with a 5-4 victory on Friday, displaying a strong finish in the final innings.

The game remained scoreless in the first inning, while the Edgewood gained an early lead in the second with a two-run single putting them ahead 2-0.

The Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with an unearned run after an error and a double.

Millsaps responded in the seventh inning, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Carr's two-run homer over left field brought home Ousley, who had reached base on a walk.

The momentum continued into the eighth inning, where Thomas launched a solo home run to right field, followed by another two-run homer from Carr, bringing Ousley across the plate again.

This effort gave Millsaps a 5-3 lead after the eighth inning. Edgewood managed to score a solo home run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the Majors' late surge.

Millsaps' pitching closed out the game with a series of strikeouts, securing the win at 5-4.

Game 2: Edgewood 16, Millsaps 9

Freshman Hudson Moberly scored twice and drove in one run, while classmate Michael Griggs delivered a crucial three-RBI double.

Sophomore Fred Fields provided strong relief, pitching in 4.2 innings, where he only allowed two hits and zero runs.

Edgewood took an early lead with scoring on a groundout, and capitalizing on Millsaps' miscues, scoring five runs in the second inning to lead 6-0.

Millsaps got on the board in the fifth inning, with senior Mason Morgan driving in a run and cutting Edgewood's lead to 6-2.

The Majors continued to chip away, scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, bringing the score to 6-4.

A significant five-run rally in the eighth inning put Millsaps ahead 9-8.

However, Edgewood responded in the ninth with an explosive eight-run inning, highlighted by a grand slam to seal the victory for the Eagles with a final score of 16-9.

Game 3: Millsaps 9, Edgewood 5

Millsaps rebounded with a 9-5 victory over Edgewood on Saturday at Twenty Field.

Freshman Thomas Temple recorded four hits, including two triples and a home run, while Ousley contributed three hits and three RBIs.

Senior Ryan Laiche pitched 4 innings, allowing 4 earned runs, while Thomas earned the win, throwing 5 innings with 6 strikeouts.

The Majors took an early lead with Temple's triple in the second inning and a two-run homer from Ousley, making it 3-0.

Temple delivered a two-run homer in the eighth inning to solidify the Majors' lead at 9-4. Despite Edgewood scoring a solo homer in the ninth, Millsaps maintained control to finish the game with a 9-5 victory.

In the fourth inning, Millsaps built on their advantage, scoring two more runs to lead 5-0.

However, Edgewood responded in the fifth with a four-run burst, closing the gap significantly. Millsaps answered back with a strong showing in the fifth inning, pushing their lead to 7-4.

Temple delivered a two-run homer in the eighth inning to solidify the Majors' lead at 9-4. Despite Edgewood scoring a solo homer in the ninth, Millsaps maintained control to finish the game with a 9-5 victory.

Millsaps will be back in action on Tuesday to face Centenary College pitching slated to begin at 4 p.m. in Shreveport, La. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
