Baseball Falls in Game Two of Cowboy Maloney Series

Majors Bested, 12-1 at Trustmark Park on Tuesday

PEARL, Miss. — An enormous first inning was too much for the Millsaps College baseball team to overcome as No. 19 Belhaven claimed Game Two of the Cowboy Maloney Series, 12-1 in seven innings at Trustmark Park on Tuesday.

Millsaps (10-14) was looking to secure the 2026 Cowboy Maloney Series Trophy in the annual three-game series after claiming Game One, 14-7 a week ago. The rubber match will now take place back at Twenty Field on Tuesday, April 14, beginning at 6 p.m.

Freshman Carter Guillory pitched the fifth and sixth innings in relief, keeping the Blazers scoreless. He kept the opposition hitless as well, with just one walk surrendered.

Sophomore Carston Williams tallied an RBI single, while junior Wesley Grant recorded a hit and scored a run. Additionally, senior Mason Morgan walked and was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Kyle Veal Jr. finished 1-for-2 at the plate.

No. 19 Belhaven (18-7) jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the first frame by utilizing six hits, three hit by pitches, and a pair of walks.

Morgan and freshman Christian Kretzer provided base runners with walks in the second and third innings, respectively. Belhaven stopped both threats and added a run in the bottom of the third inning itself.

Morgan again reached base in the fourth with a hit by pitch before the Majors posted multiple base runners in the fifth. Veal Jr. led with a single right up the middle before senior Sam Thomas reached on a base on balls. The Blazers kept the Majors scoreless unfortunately with a double play followed by a strikeout.

Thomas, fielding first base, later helped force an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the fifth when he threw out the lead runner hoping to reach second base. Senior shortstop EJ Ousley touched the base and when attempting to throw back to first base, was interfered with by the runner, which resulted in the second out on the play and third out of the inning.

Millsaps then broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Grant opened with a single of his own up the middle before stealing second, and reaching third on a wild pitch. Williams took action by providing the third hit through the middle infield of the game, plating Grant from third base.

Williams eventually reached third courtesy of a passed ball and wild pitch, but was kept from scoring with an inning-ending groundout.

The Majors will next resume Southern Athletic Association action at Oglethorpe University, Friday and Saturday in Atlanta. Game One is set for 4 p.m. CT on Friday, with live video and live stats to be provided at gomajors.com.
