MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Millsaps baseball team faced two challenging opponents over the weekend, falling to Edgewood University 13-6 and Huntingdon College 9-3 at the Neal Posey Field.
Game 1, L: Edgewood 13, Millsaps 6
In the first game against Edgewood, Millsaps managed seven hits and drew ten walks,
Sophomore
Cam Cressend pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits,
Senior
EJ Ousley showcased his speed with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while freshman
Hudson Moberly recorded two hits and one RBI.
Sophomore
Carston Williams excelled defensively with five assists and added a stolen base.
The game began with Millsaps taking an early lead in the first inning when Ousley scored, unearned, on an error by Edgewood, making it 1-0.
Ousley then stole home in the third inning after advancing to third base, extending the lead to 2-0.
However, Edgewood responded in the fourth inning, leveling the score at 2-2 with runs.
Millsaps regained momentum in the fifth inning with runs from Moberly and Williams, making it 4-2, only for Edgewood to tie it again at 4-4 in the same inning.
Edgewood took a slight lead in the sixth with a solo home run. Millsaps recovered to tied the game again at 5-5 when freshman
Thomas Temple scored on a hit by Moberly.
Both teams exchanged runs in the seventh, maintaining a tense tie at 6-6. However, Edgewood took control in the eighth, scoring four runs, including a two-RBI single, and added three more in the ninth, sealing a 13-6 victory.
Game 1, L: Huntingdon 9, Millsaps 3
Junior
Wesley Grant contributed a double and a stolen base, while Williams and senior
Mason Morgan each recorded two hits, with freshman
Dominic Mendieta also driving in a run.
Huntingdon jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a double and three unearned runs.
Millsaps responded in the second inning with a run from Mendieta's double, bringing home sophomore
Wes Carr, but Huntingdon extended its lead to 5-1 with another unearned run.
The Hawks continued to build their lead, scoring on a passed ball in the third inning and breaking the game open in the sixth with three runs, including a two-RBI double by
Millsaps added a run in the seventh when Williams doubled and scored on a single by Carr, reducing the deficit to 9-2. In the eighth, Grant doubled, stole third, and scored on a catcher's error, completing the score at 9-3 as the Majors trailed behind.
