Softball Wraps Up Regular-Season Road Finale in Texas

Majors Fall to Trinity, 5–3 on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Millsaps College softball team showed courage against Trinity University but fell short, 5–3, on Sunday at the Trinity Softball Field.

Sophomore Kodi Jimmie went 2-for-4 in batting while recording two RBIs. Junior Ella Morgan Sears had a day boasting one homer, two runs, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base against the Tigers.

Second-year student Brynn Arena registered two walks and a stolen base while junior Allana Vasquez and freshman Liza Gregg each recorded a hit.

Classmate Hailey Marange pitched 4.0 innings allowing zero runs and one walk while facing 15 batters.

Millsaps wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning to start Sunday off with a fresh start.

Sears sparked the offense with an inside-the-park home run, sending a deep drive to center field as she circled all the bases to give the Majors an early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning, putting up three runs to take a 3-1 advantage.

Trinity continued to build momentum in the second inning, adding two more runs to extend the lead to 5-1.

Facing an early deficit, the Majors respond in the third inning. Sears reached base with a walk and showcased her speed by stealing second.

Sophomore Caroline Mathis followed with a walk, setting the stage for Jimmie, who delivered a clutch single up the middle to score both Sears and Mathis, cutting the contest down to 5-3.

Millsaps continued to fight as the game progressed, however Trinity stayed ahead to take down the Majors on Sunday to wrap up the series.

The Majors will be back in action to face Southwestern University at home in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
