JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps College men's and women's golf programs look to continue its success on the course after welcoming Thomas Watkins as assistant coach, the Millsaps Athletics Department announced Monday.

"I'm honored to join the Millsaps College golf program as assistant coach," Watkins said. "Thank you to Coach Fluty and the athletic department for this opportunity. I'm excited to help develop our student-athletes and begin this new chapter of my coaching career." 
 
Watkins holds skills in athletic coaching and team development, program management, strategic leadership, technical instruction, junior golf programming, and instructional staff mentorship.
 
He recently received recognition from Golf Digest as one of the Best Young Teachers in America for 2025-2026. In 2022, he was named a Best Teachers in Your State for Mississippi by Golf Digest. Watkins was also honored with the Robbie Webb Award for his outstanding contributions to junior golf in Mississippi. 
 
Since 2015, he has been the Director of Golf Instruction at Randy Watkins Golf Group, located in Pearl, Miss., where he oversaw all aspects of golf instruction, programming, and curriculum development for the organization.  
  
Watkins led a team of instructors to provide high-quality training tailored to students of all skill levels. 
 
He managed operations to ensure consistent growth in student retention, clinic, participation, and private lesson revenue. 
 
Watkins integrated modern training methodologies and technologies to enhance the learning experience for all students.

He also comes to Millsaps from Madison Central High School, where he spent seven years as the assistant girls' golf coach. 
 
While with the Jaguars, he assisted in the development and implementation of training programs for high school athletes. 
 
Watkins supported player growth through technical instruction, mental game coaching, and tournament preparation. He also coordinated with the head coach to manage team logistics, practices, and match-day strategies. 
 
Watkins also fostered a competitive and supportive team culture, emphasizing sportsmanship and long-term athletic development.
 
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from the University of Mississippi in 2013, where he also competed on the men's golf team from 2009 to 2012.
