BELTON, Texas — The Millsaps College volleyball team wrapped up its weekend at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Majors fell to Carroll University, 3-2, before defeating Alverno College, 3-1, on Friday. Millsaps opened Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Texas Lutheran University before falling to the host Crusaders, 3-1.

Match 1: Carroll University (WI) 3, Millsaps College 2  

(27-25, 25-27, 18-25, 26-24, 12-15)

Freshman Khloe Duncan led Millsaps with 15 kills and 16.0 points, adding seven digs and two block assists. Senior Sandy Bourgeois collected 19 digs and served two aces. Sophomore Atlee Gonzales tallied four service aces and added 13 digs. Junior Abigail Drury recorded 16 digs and 10 assists.

Millsaps erased a 14-9 deficit in the first set by taking seven of the next eight rallies, with senior Amelia Bohl and sophomore Madelynn Sasser contributing kills and junior Zoë LaCaze joining her teammates by adding an ace to take a 16-15 lead.

Carroll (WI) quickly responded to take a 20-18 advantage, but Millsaps stayed ahead of the Pioneers, getting late kills from freshman Duncan, LaCaze, and Bohl before Sasser and sophomore Rachel Zamjahn closed out the 27-25 set win with eight consecutive kills. The Majors also tallied 20 kills throughout the opening set.

In the second set, it was a battle back and forth effort between both teams before the Pioneers would break away and secure a 23-18 extension.

Millsaps then seized their opportunity to disrupt Carroll (WI) on a 5-0 run with three service aces, one attack error, and a kill to tie the contest at 23-23.

The Majors answered on an attack error and a Bohl kill from Gonzales to take a 25-24 lead. Carroll (WI) rushed the final three points to claim the set 27-25.   

In the third set, Carroll (WI) downed the Majors on an 11-2 deficit; the Majors put together four straight points later in the set, with LaCaze and Duncan teaming on a block and Duncan adding a kill from Drury to make it 21-15.     
    
Bohl added consecutive late kills, but Carroll (WI) finished the set 25-18. In the fourth set, Millsaps used an early 6-0 burst to move from a 3-3 tie to a 9-3 lead, with Sasser starting it with a kill and sophomore Anna Ware serving the next five points, including an ace.     
    
Carroll (WI) later erased Millsaps's 24-22 edge to tie the set at 24, but Millsaps answered with Bohl's kill and Sasser's finish from Drury for a 26-24 set win.    

In the fifth set, Millsaps pushed level at 11-11 when sophomore Kinney Boyle's kill was followed by a Carroll (WI) attack error and a Gonzales service ace. However, the Pioneers scored the final three points to claim the set, 15-12. 

Match 2: Millsaps College 3, Alverno College 1

(25-8, 25-11, 24-26, 25-12) 

Duncan finished against the Inferno with 16 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, and 17 points. Sophomore Lily Luneau recorded eight kills on a .700 hitting percentage, three block assists, and 10.5 points.

Drury posted 16 assists and 11 digs. Gonzales served five aces without a service error and added five digs.

Millsaps dominated the opening set, cruising to a 25-8 victory behind a 10-0 run that turned a 10-6 deficit into a 20-6 lead.

The Majors recorded 12 kills to Alverno's five and added six service aces, with Duncan tallying six kills and Gonzales delivering three aces during the decisive run.

The Millsaps volleyball team took the second set 25-11, finishing with a 12-6 advantage in kills. Drury served during a run from 13-9 to 21-9 that included an ace, two Bohl kills, and a sophomore Tatum Husby kill, while Alverno was held to six kills in the set.

Millsaps served six aces in the third set, including three by Fredieu, and spread nine kills among seven players, while Alverno finished with 10 kills, which scored seven straight points to move from a 20-14 Millsaps lead to a 21-20 edge and later closed the set with four consecutive points for a 26-24 result.

The Majors broke open the fourth set with a 7-0 run that turned a 12-8 edge into a 19-8 advantage, with Gonzales serving six straight points that included back-to-back aces, a Duncan kill, and a Luneau kill. Earlier,

Millsaps moved from a 2-2 tie to a 7-2 lead behind three Duncan kills, a Ware service ace, and an Alverno setting error, then added points from Boyle, freshman Jada Moore, Luneau, and Bohl to reach 12-7. After Alverno got to 12-8, the Gonzales service stretch gave Millsaps a 19-8 lead.

The Majors moved through the closing points with another Duncan kill, a Boyle kill, and a Fredieu ace. Millsaps closed the set on an Alverno attack error for a 25-12 finish.

Match 3: Millsaps College 3, Texas Lutheran University 0 

(26-24, 25-15, 25-17) 

Duncan led Millsaps against Texas Lutheran with nine kills. Drury had a team-high 13 assists and added four digs, while Bourgeois recorded a team-high 11 digs, four assists, and a service ace. Ware contributed with 12 assists, seven digs, and a service ace.

In the match against Texas Lutheran, Millsaps finished the second set on an impressive 8-0 run.

The Majors dominated with a 37-25 advantage in kills and a hitting percentage of .157, while limiting Texas Lutheran to a .000 hitting percentage.

Millsaps rallied from a 24-22 deficit in the first set, claiming four straight points with a LaCaze kill from Drury and three attack errors from Texas Lutheran. 

After trailing 6-4, Millsaps tied the set at 6-6 with a Duncan kill and a block assist from Sasser and Luneau.  
 
Both teams continued to trade points, with Millsaps responding to a 20-16 deficit with kills from Bohl, Luneau, Ware, Sasser, and Boyle. Drury's kill narrowed the gap to 22-21, and Millsaps pulled ahead to win the set 26-24.

The second set was dominated by Millsaps, who scored the final eight points. After Texas Lutheran had a brief lead, Millsaps regained control with kills from Duncan, Bohl, and a block by Sasser and LaCaze. Bourgeois served the last seven points, including an ace, to secure a 25-15 win.

In the third set, Millsaps overcame an early 5-3 deficit, winning the next five points thanks to Fredieu's serving and kills from Sasser, Luneau, and Boyle, establishing a 14-7 lead. Despite a late rally from Texas Lutheran, Millsaps maintained their composure, with Luneau finishing the set 25-17 with a kill from Ware.

Duncan led Millsaps against Texas Lutheran with nine kills. Drury had a team-high 13 assists and added four digs, while Sandy Bourgeois recorded a team-high 11 digs, four assists, and a service ace. Ware contributed with 12 assists, seven digs, and a service ace. 

Match 4: Mary Hardin-Baylor 3, Millsaps College 1

(24-26, 12-25, 25-22, 16-25) 

In the match against Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Majors fought back in the third set, rallying from a 20-15 deficit to secure a 25-22 set win, but could not sustain the momentum for the remainder of the match.

Duncan again led the team with 16 kills, while Bourgeois recorded 26 digs.

Mary Hardin-Baylor took an early lead in the first set, but Millsaps responded with kills from Bohl and Duncan. 

However, the opposition built a substantial lead, leading to a tight finish where Millsaps tied the set at 24-24 before Mary Hardin-Baylor closed it out with two kills for a 26-24 win.

The second set saw Mary Hardin-Baylor overpower Millsaps, taking advantage of several attack errors to win 25-12. Millsaps managed to keep it close at times but could not recover from the deficit.

In the third set, Millsaps fought back after trailing 20-15, with Bourgeois serving five straight points, including an ace, to help Millsaps take a 21-20 lead. After trading points, LaCaze and Duncan delivered critical kills to secure the 25-22 win.

The fourth set began with Millsaps trailing early; the Majors would look to fight back after a bad set would cut the contest down 14-6. Despite a late push, the Majors would fall 25-16 after a hard-fought battle.

The Majors will be back in action on Friday and Saturday to co-host the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational. Live stats will be available and the game will streamed via FloCollege.
