Coach Jamie R. Lock is entering her first year as assistant defensive backs coach of Millsaps College in summer 2022.
Lock was born and raised in Brandon, Miss., and graduated from Pelahatchie High School. While at Pelahatchie, she started her athletic career playing pee-wee football and junior-high football as a running back. During her time in high school, she was a three-sport athlete in softball, basketball, and track and field where she won numerous awards.
After high school, Coach Lock attended Southwest Mississippi Community College in McComb, Miss., on a softball scholarship, where she powered SMCC to its most ever wins in a season. After two years at SMCC, Lock moved on to a four-year university and accepted a softball scholarship at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss.
After Lock finished her playing career, she graduated from college and joined the United States Army. During her tenure as a Soldier, she operated Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Fort Irwin, Calif., and Fort Campbell, Ky. While at Fort Campbell, she tried out and made the team as a running back for the Clarksville Airborne, a men’s semi-pro team made up mostly of Soldiers. She also played women’s professional football with the Music City Mizfits, based in Nashville, Tenn.
After medically retiring from the Army, Lock began her football coaching career with Ezell-Harding Christian School (Antioch, Tenn.). While at Ezell-Harding, Coach Lock was mentored by Coach Dustin McGee as a running back coach. After two years with Ezell-Harding, Lock won her first championship in 2019. There she oversaw at least two backs making First and Second Team All-District, respectively, both in 2018 and 2019.
Coach Lock returned to the state with the Mississippi Panthers, a women’s full-tackle football team based in Jackson, Miss. While playing for the Panthers, Lock was voted as an All-Pro strong safety, leading the team in tackles for the past two years.
She also was a teacher and football coach for Magee High School (Magee, Miss.) for the previous two seasons. In 2020, Coach Lock won her second State Championship under the legendary coach Teddy Dyess. She also had at least one rusher voted All-District each season while at Magee High School.
During this past summer, she coached AIFA Champions Mississippi Raiders at receiving position, while continuing to play for the Mississippi Panthers as a safety. While coaching for Millsaps, Coach Lock plans on continuing her education on and off the field.
