Jared Burton

Jared Burton was named the Quarterbacks and Offensive Pass Game Coordinator in the Spring of 2023 and was promoted to Offensive Coordinator in May, entering his 12th season coaching at the college level and 16th year overall.

Prior to that, Coach Burton was hired as the Wide Receivers Coach in the summer of 2022 at Mississippi Valley State University. Burton was promoted week 5 of the 2022 season to Offensive Coordinator, QB's and WR's coach. Key wins on the season came in a nationally televised ESPN game of the week vs. Alabama A&M at home 30-20. As starting quarterback Jalani Eason was able to return to play after missing multiple weeks due to a broken hand. Eason provided 194 yards through the air on 3 TD passes all while the run game accounted for over 200 yards on the ground. The Delta Devils were then able knock Prairie View A&M out of conference title contention in the season finale by a score of 27-7. 
Burton spent the fall 2021 at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC working with special teams and running backs while handling all football operations. In the spring of 2022 Burton was hired as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach/DFO at Cisco College in Cisco, TX.
In 2019, he coached wide receivers and pass game at DII Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota while mentoring All-NSIC First Team selection Sean Engle as the Vikings made an appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs against Colorado State-Pueblo finishing the season 9-3.
Prior to joining the staff at AU, Burton was the Quarterbacks and Pass Game Coordinator under John L. Smith at Kentucky State University. He was also in charge of handling all travel operations and equipment coordination. Kentucky State was the second stint coach Burton had working under John L. Smith as he was the wide receivers, travel and video coordinator for the coach Smith at FLC in Durango Colorado. Big win in school history being a week three upset over #3 ranked team in the nation and eventual DII National Champion CSU-P in 2014.
Coach Burton began his college career at DI FCS Northern Colorado under Scott Downing and Offensive Coordinator Dennis Darnell. Working alongside wide receivers coach Jordan Fenner having assisted in the development of Big Sky first team all conference players Jace Davis and Patrick Walker. In 2010 Burton moved over to assist offensive line coach Brad Bedell under offensive coordinator Greg Peterson. The following season Burton worked under Earnest Collins coaching Tight Ends and kickers along with recruiting operations. 
The New Mexico son grew up around the game having head high school football coach Joe Burton as a father. Playing quarterback after high school under head coach John O'mera at New Mexico Military Institute before eventually becoming a walk-on quarterback at UTEP under Mike Price.
After his stint in El Paso, he graduated from Northern Colorado with a degree in sports and exercise science before taking his first coaching job at Denver East High School for three years as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach 2006-2009 working alongside Ronnie Woolfork.
