Melanie Savala joined the Millsaps coaching staff in 2019.
Savala played four seasons as a third baseman at the University of Dallas. Voted as a team captain during her junior season, Savala holds the single game stolen base record at UD, and currently ranks 4th all team in career stolen bases.
In 2016 she was named to the SCAC all-conference team, and was awarded an academic all-conference award during the 2018 season.
Savala was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education in 2018, and graduated from the University of Dallas with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2019.
