Box Score SEWANEE, TN- Mike Barthelemy had over 150 yards rushing and the Majors moved to 7-0 after a hard fought 21-14 win over the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday in Tennessee.
The Majors crashed the Tigers' homecoming party behind Barthelemy's 163 yards and two scores. The junior tailback got the scoring started with a one yard plunge at the tail end of the first quarter. The seven play drive consisted of seven Barthelemy rushes for 45 yards.
After the second quarter saw the teams trade field possession, the Majors made a huge play on defense. Alex Stewart forced a fumble on an option pitch and the Majors recovered deep in Tiger territory and were in business with just under a minute left in the half. Zak Thrasher threw a beautiful back-shoulder stop fade to Zander Romano with just three seconds left in the half. Millsaps owned a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Tigers took the opening drive of the second half 70 yards for a score to cut the Majors' lead in half. Again, it was the Majors' defense that jump started the Majors next scoring drive when Semmes White recovered a Tiger fumble at the Sewanee 40 and took it inside their 35.
Thrasher hit Beau Wells to get Millsaps in the red zone and Barthelemy took it from there, powering in from two yards out to give Millsaps a two score lead once again.
Midway through the fourth, Sewanee went 11 plays for their second score on a drive that took over six minutes to make it 21-14. However, the drive ate up most of the fourth quarter clock and the Tigers would get the ball just one more time.
The Majors defense stood stout and were aided by a big personal foul penalty against the Tigers. Sewanee was forced to punt and Barthelemy and the Majors made sure that the Tigers would not get the ball back.
Zak Thrasher was efficient as usual, throwing for 137 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Zach Bell led the defense with eight tackles while Alex Stewart had a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. The Majors defense held Sewanee to just 18 yards passing, intercepting one of their five attempts. Millsaps also limited the Tigers to 197 yards rushing, over thirty yards under their season average.
The Majors at 7-0, head home for their next two contests. They will host the Berry Vikings next weekend on homecoming. Kick off is at 1pm and Millsaps will unveil their 2013 Hall of Fame Class starting at 12:30.
